Jan came to see Emma early in 2006. She had had a very stressful previous couple of years and was feeling low, had little energy and didn’t “feel herself”. She had gained weight predominantly around her middle and craved bread & starchy foods. She also suffered from crippling migraines every couple of days and had regular asthma attacks. In addition, her skin, hair & nails were dry and in poor condition, she had water retention and a variety of digestive problems including aches & pains and bloating. She also felt stressed and anxious much of the time.
An analysis of her current diet showed an unbalanced blood sugar profile. In addition, her symptoms suggested that there may be hormonal imbalances so Jan’s thyroid and adrenal function were tested. The results showed that she was suffering from mild hypothyroidism. In addition, her adrenals were in over-drive, trying to compensate for imbalances in thyroid hormones & poor blood sugar control.
Jan adopted a protocol to balance her blood sugar through dietary changes & eating more healthily. She also began a programme of supplements, targeted specifically to support her thyroid & adrenal systems. Finally, she adjusted her exercise regime to adopt more recuperative & relaxing activities alongside her cardiovascular classes.
Five months later and Jan, in her own words, “feels like her old self again”. She has lost over a stone in weight (which is staying off even over the holiday season!) and her water retention has significantly improved. Her migraines have decreased from around 6 per fortnight to a couple over 4 months and she has had no asthma attacks. Her cravings have disappeared, her energy has improved and all her digestive symptoms have disappeared. Her skin is fresher, more hydrated and younger looking and her hairdresser has even noted how much her hair condition has improved! She now feels much calmer, settled and in control and the kind of things which used to worry her no longer do so.
Jan now sees Emma every 12 weeks on a maintenance basis, to keep her diet, health & fitness in balance. |
